Artists Statement
The piece Nine Visions
consists of nine small paintings from a larger series. The series represents
images from a dream-like voyage into the mysterious internal spaces of some
ordinary still life objects.
During this journey I imagined visceral
views of succulent papaya, cantaloupe, pomegranates and squash, all larger than
life. They sometimes appeared fused to their disconnected and unorganized
surroundings. As I floated further into their intimate spaces, their shapes
became abstracted, less detailed and irregular.
For me, the abstract works from this dream
sequence are mysterious, lush and reminiscent of internal spaces with fleeting
glimpses of peculiar floating forms. The secretive darks and luminous lights
evoke in me feelings of both the sinister and the engaging.
